Gowri Satyanarayana, MD

Gowri Satyanarayana, MD, is a nationally and internationally recognized thought leader, educator, and board-certified Infectious Diseases Physician, with expertise in the diagnosis and management of infections in patients who have cancer or who have undergone a transplant.

Dr. Satyanarayana completed her Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and completed an additional year of advanced, sub-specialized training in Transplant Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School.

Before setting up her practice at Northside Hospital, she had almost a decade of clinical and research experience as a Transplant Infectious Diseases Physician at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), where she was an Associate Professor and served as the Director of the Transplant Infectious Diseases Clinical Service and Associate Director of the VUMC Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. Under her leadership, the VUMC Antimicrobial Stewardship Program has been nationally designated an Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Dr. Satyanarayana has a keen interest in teaching trainees and colleagues, and during her time at VUMC, was chosen to be the first Director of the VUMC Transplant Infectious Diseases and Immunocompromised Host Fellowship Program. She remains an Adjunct Professor at VUMC.

Dr. Satyanarayana’s clinical interests include skilled treatment of complex bacterial, viral, and fungal infections in cancer and transplant patients, while minimizing over exposure of patients to antimicrobials. Her research interests include participating in clinical research which advances knowledge in the field of cancer related infections. She has also been the Principal Investigator of eleven clinical trials examining new diagnostic methods and therapeutics for infections. Dr. Satyanarayana is well published, having many peer-reviewed publications not only in her field of Infectious Diseases, but also in the field of Oncology. Included in her publications are book chapters and journal chapters which she has written upon invitation from editors.

Dr. Satyanarayana works with all members of a patient’s multi-disciplinary team to add expertise in the management of complex infections. She is committed to helping her patients achieve a better quality of life by delivering exceptional and compassionate care.

Apart from working in her field, Dr. Satyanarayana enjoys time in nature, learning new calligraphy techniques, cooking, and spending time with friends and loved ones.
