About the Provider
Dr. Eddie K. Abdalla is a recognized surgeon, thought leader and researcher in hepatobiliary surgery and surgical oncology. He founded and remains Medical Director of the high-volume liver and high-volume pancreas and complex surgical oncology program at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Abdalla has research interests that parallel his clinical experience, which includes all aspects of liver and pancreatic surgery and complex GI and robotic surgery. He has served as an invited speaker at some of the most esteemed symposiums in the world, and has published his research extensively, with well over 150 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, over 20 book chapters, and hundreds of abstracts and presentations.
In 2017, he was recognized by Wolters Kluwer Health for his contributions to UpToDate, a clinical decision support resource used by clinicians all over the world, and was recognized as one of the best authors in the field of Oncology. He is known for his work in major, extensive liver resection, liver enhancement allowing safer major liver surgery with portal vein embolization, expanding the population of patients with multiple and bilateral liver tumors to undergo safe surgery, and the interactions between surgery and chemotherapy. His experience with complex pancreatic resection with vascular resection have been central to bringing National Pancreas Foundation accreditation to NHCI for pancreas cancer.
He has held numerous academic appointments, serves on the editorial boards of several journals and is an active member of several major organizations worldwide, including American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and Society of Surgical Oncology.
